Wow, flowers look just like a Dendrobium.

cneos, Thanks for the correction. I posted the name from the catalog (and label) but when I looked it up in The Vanda book by David Grove, the cross is listed as 'Nakamotoara'. I changed my records. Thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

Hi Marilyn ... According to RHS, this hybrid has not yet been registered. Do you know who the hybridizer is? Perhaps Michael Blietz at EOM?

This type of breeding results in compact, multi-keikied plants that bear delightfully scented, vividly colored flowers on graceful inflorescences. You have nice display for the plant's first bloom. When it grows up, it should be pretty special!

Good luck and thanks for sharing.

My granddaughter is driving in from Lansing. She is expecting a baby in a couple of weeks. I sure hope that baby isn't impatient.
WOW! Adding another to the long list, Marilyn?
Congratulations That's wonderful

I believe it was Mike Bliets. Their listing said that they were working on other neo crosses. If they all turn out as nice as this one,I hope they do some soon.

Oftentimes, a hybridizer won't register a new cross until the plant's marketability and awardability is proven.

I have a mericlone of Ascda. Blue Tahourdin 'Bronze Grape' - it hasn't flowered for me yet but from photos I've seen, it has a decent-sized flower with full sepals and petals.

I don't know which Ascda. Blue Tahourdin was used as one parent of your Nakamotoara, but your plant really favors its neofinetia parent. It would be interesting to see other offspring of this cross. Whether it has award potential or not, Mike might like to see photos of your Nak. in bloom. Go for it!

I also have the 'Bronze Grape' it was in bud but I bumped the bud off while trying to get it out of the pot. I have never seen a vanda with so many thick fat roots. It was in a pot, which I had to break to get the plant out. I soaked it forever to get it supple enough to put it into a wood basket.

Please post a pic of yours when it blooms.

I did send Mike a picture of my Nak. both the bloom and the basket picture. I also ordered two more of the same cross. I am anxious to see what they look like. I am of the understanding they may vary a lot. I'll post pictures when they bloom.
