This Fukiran that has been groomed into great health over 2 1/2 years and produced 5 new growths but its never bloomed has now acquired this dull light brown sheen over a few of it's bottom leaves?

Are you talking about the leaves that lack green?

I have leaves that lack color. I don't worry about it for now. I think a whole plant that lacks color is call a "ghost"? I think that would be bad since it means there are no chlorophyll left to photosynthesize.

I'm a "cross that bridge when I get to it" kind of grower but you can start researching it. (I guess you have by posting here!)

It just looks like normal death of the oldest leaves.

Just let it be and eventually they will drop off at the tsuke.

Don't pull them off as I believe the plant pulls in whatever it can from them before they drop off.
