From Barampung with a leaf spread of currently 4”, I now have a difficulty in understanding how this variety is referred to as a bean leaf. I originally would have referred to it as such do to the rounded leaf tips but then was informed that that was not a requirement or sufficient but that size was a requirement.

Is this an example of a variety of a neo where experts in neofinetias have disagreements in the plant being referred to as a bean leaf?

I like the plant, although I have not bloomed it yet. Perhaps for all I know, it needs to grow larger? It is a sturdy, tough looking plant as you probably can tell from the picture. But a bean leaf? I don't see it.

Tengyokuho a mameba variety. There is no contention about it.

While most mameba plants are smaller in size, I guess the explanation last time wasn't concise enough to get the point across. The key characteristic of mameba plants is the proportion.

Simply put, the plant has to have short leaves in proportion to the width of the leaves.

It's impossible to set a defining threshold ratio though, and when the plant is in the grey area, other characteristics such as the tsuke and flower shape can be used to help categorize.

Tengyokuho is a famously large plant, bigger than many standard varieties. However, the variety has extraordinarily wide leaves, and the ratio of the length of the leaf to the width puts it squarely in the mameba category.

To further drive the categorization through, it has a waveform tsuke, and the flower shape that corresponds to the classic mameba varieties.

Thank you Hakumin. Your explanation really clears this up.

Large plant and the flowers appear to be large in proportion to the plant.

Strongly fragrant.
