How often do I need to water is almost impossible to answer as it depends on how sunny or cloudy it has been.
Less in the late fall and winter. Also new media needs more frequent watering than 2 month or so older media.
Judging by weight of pot is tricky but I believe better than digging your finger into the media and damaging or at least disturbing roots.
