Don, you can grow these in bark mix (that's how I got mine) or grow it the japanese way with long stranded Sphrag moss:

aliflor, hydroton, technically all in all itz the same thing. baked clay, haha. for me, just lots of sun (a little too much actually b/c one side of the fan is slightly lime in color), a good chill in the window in winter, and lots of water in the summer. the holes in the water bottle isnt at the btm, so about 0.5' of water stays inside, i pretty much water freely and fertilize weekly in the spring onwards until about winter when i start watering a little less and stop fertilizing.

thatz the regime for now. he's liked it for 3 seasons. this is the last one. he blooms and that means it works for me, haha
