I have so far been able to stay away from the >$100 Neofinetia - though I was tempted!! Unfortunately, instead, I've been eyeing the variegated Sedirea! I know the exchange rate is good (for me) right now, but still, I don't know. Possibly I could say its an early birthday present from my husband......

Oh man.... I hope my Neo gets to such a stage! I fear I got a medium seedling, and I've got a couple of years to wait for it to bloom. I remember you said you got it at the SOOS Orchid show last year, did you get it as a seedling or at the blooming size?

Hey Nicholas yeah actually you know I think it smelled gross when the blooms first opened, but as they have matured, the scent has become really nice!!! I've also noticed that they smell better in the mornings compared to at night, when it's a little more chemically. Hope yours blooms for you soon!
Shams - I got it with one spike last year (you can see it in my avatar pic ) so definitely blooming size...I'm scared to try a seedling with this species - I tried a rare-ish bare-root seedling a friend sent me and I killed it. How many fans does yours have? I know people who bloom double or even single fanned neos so don't worry about having to wait years!
Yes, if you are visiting here from the 'quickie project #2' post, please DO allow me to enable you - this is a GREAT compact, fantastic plant that you will love, from it's normal elegant growth habit to the uber-cute uncurling of the petals and spurs, to the blooming and glorious (usually ) scent...and once you get one you will want another and another.

Mine has one and a half fans right now. Currently he's looking very happy. He's got lots of Vanda friends to keep him company.

yes the scent is strongest in the evenings, and lightens up as the night passes by, and in the morning, it has the lightest scent. so even bad smelling ones will smell nice ^^ and the smell will mature. mine's smelled best when it as about 2-3 weeks b4 it wilted if i didnt rmb it incorrectly
i attached my little one... i wanted to get the pics smaller, but i guess i'll hafta play around with it more somehow... but for how...
in the middle and last pic, there are two things that look like fans. they spikes or fans? i've never seen mine initiate the spike growth, i bought it 'half- spiked'

I see you have your planted in aliflor. Anything else? Any special growing conditions? I also see you are in Canada and I live in deep south, Georgia. I love the ascon., will they take the same requirements?
