If you can find the reference from someone who grows it, that would be great. But based on the location information in the article, I would have to guess that it does not want to dry out completely - I have been in Madagascar,and that area is quite damp throughout the year. (The island has areas with dry periods, but that's not the case in the eastern rain forest region) The other feature of that habitat - those elevations don't look very high, but it gets quite chilly. (The capitol, Antananarivo, gets significant frost, a bit farther inland but similar elevation) So I would expect that it can easily tolerate a low temperature of 45 deg. F. (I was there in late winter/early spring and I was really glad that I had brought a lightweight down jacket)
