Potting Medium and Pot for Angraecum Sesquipedale

In particular Angraecum Sesquipedale var angustifolium. I just bought a small-ish one in spike with two buds forming. When it's doing blooming I want to repot it in something suitable and presentable so I can grow it to a specimen plant. I grow outside on my screened in patio in zone 10a.

As a side note, I know the plant needs phalenopsis light and can be adjusted to brighter light, but how should I keep it watered? Let it dry out in between, or let it stay moist?

I have seen people in Florida post pictures of them hanging in Vanda baskets with barely any medium.

I grow mine in a basket pot with large red lava rock. Here is a good website for the Angraecums:

I agree. Your climate in south Florida should be very similar to their habitat in the wet eastern part of Madagascar. You can get colder; in habitat frost never happens.

A small plant could also easily be grown in a basket of coral chunks. If you bare-root your plant in a basket, or put it into something with very large chunks, remember to water it every day it doesn't rain.

And the roots are somewhat sensitive to repotting, but not as much as some other plants. Soak the plant in water for a few hours before unpotting so the roots are more flexible, and do it gently. I repotted an Angraecum sesquipedale seedling a couple of years ago; I soaked, didn't break any roots and it took off growing.

Thanks for the advice. The seller I bought it from had some confusing advice he was uncertain of. I've got a lovely hanging basket I'll put it in with some lava rock and soak it every day. All this after it's done blooming.

When potting, should I plan on putting it in a basket sized large for when it's mature, or pot it in one that is just larger than it's current 2/3 inch square plastic pot? If I put it in the smaller pot, when it's time to size up, so I just set the old basket in the new one and let the plant grow in two baskets?
