Angraecum stella-africae, the Star of Africa
I have been looking for this very rare species for a while, and would you believe it, there are plants available from two sellers.
The first sells well rooted plants, but cant tell me from where the pod came, they are only known from small locations in Malawi, Zimbabwe, and the Wolkberg mountain range in Limpopo, South Africa. The plants they sell seen to big for the species, leaves measuring about 4-5 cm, so it could possibly be didieri or similar species, this is the measurements on the true stella-africae,
Leaves 3-5.5 cm, 3-4(-6), distichous. Inflorescences 1-2 arising below leaves, 1-flowered. Flowers large and showy, white. Sepals 20-25 mm. Petals 18-20 mm. Spur 12-15 cm, pendent.
But i will buy the plant anyways because it is so cheap, and just to see what the ofspring will be.
The other seller collected a few seed pods from a true specimen in the Wolkberg mountains, Limpopo. He has a flask with a few plants in. These plants are small in appearance and already look like the plant my friend has of this species, i will also buy this flask and see how they fare.
This is the flask,
This is the plant collected from,
