Default Angraecum scottianum culture

Hello!

I recently received a mature Angraecum scottianum. I'm really excited about this little plant but I'm concerned about it's temp and humidity needs. I've thought about buying a small glass terrarium to help with humidity.

Do any of you have any tips to help me successfully grow this little guy?

Thanks so much!

Since I have no experience with this orchid, I can give you the basic info from Jay's - IOSPE PHOTOS
and from ENCYCLOPÆDIA ANGRÆCORUM - Angraecum scottianum - Angraecum Encyclopedia
It's a sweet little angraecum ! Very octopus-like
and fragrant at that! BONUS
That should keep you busy until some growers respond

I sort of specialize in Angraecoides. While I don't have this one I can say it is part of the so-called "group 2" Angraecums that have short stems and narrow leaves. It grows naturally in tufts with several stems. This means many of the buds you see may be new growths (not a bad thing!) It is, in nature, an epiphyte on tree trunks, at low elevations, on the Comoro Islands off of Africa. This means, to me, that it will want (and, perhaps need) higher humidity and warmer temps. If yours is in a pot, I would get it into some sort of terrarium enclosure like a large glass container. But you will need good ventilation as well. The Comoro Islands have a monsoon climate which means really wet during the wet season and really dry (but with evening fog) during the dry seasons. The closer you can come to this the better, but indoors, anything goes!

Thank you for both of your replies!

I think I will get a glass in closer or small terrarium for it today. I'm going to also consider mounting it later.

I also think I'm going to need the Bakers sheet to just to make sure I'm not forgetting anything!

Any other advice would be great! I'll let you know how it goes

Hi Bellina - Welcome to OB

I find my scotti likes things rather simple. I grow it with my catts - fairly bright light, warm tempts and fairly moist at all times. It likes to drink alot during the summers (who doesn't)
As far as RH goes, I'd be lucky to be pushing 50%, So I don't find it's much of an issue.
I have 3 lil nubbies on it now - this will be the first blooms for this one, hopefully during the warmer months.
My scotti is parked in sphag moss with large perlite, about 25%.

Good luck to you & enjoy your new orchid.

Happy growing

This one is easy. The leaves are almost terete so i don't think it needs high humidity. I grow it with my Cattleyas.

Nice, can't wait to see your spike. Ok, I grow mine in my terrarium mounted. It gets bright lights and lots of ventilation and basically daily waterings. Temps in the mid 70's to mid 80's.
