My first Angraecum-a question Male
Default My first Angraecum-a question

I have a sesquipedale that is spiking. How many flowers might expect? I have looked at lots of photos and some plants appear to have multiple spikes with multiple flowers on a spike some a single spike with a single flower multiple spikes and a single flower per spike. It makes me think at this point it's anybody's guess what I will end up with? I watch the spike a little bit each day. We are having cold weather now so hope my sun room makes it happy. It's 68-70 during the day and 58-60 at night. My other orchids seem to love it and so far so good on the Angraecum

I think it just all depends on your particular plants growing habits and your conditions. I've seen pictures with multiple spikes and flowers...and I've seen pictures with few spikes and/or flowers. I hope you post a picture! I love Angraecums and have a few myself!

It also depends on the age of the plant. The more mature it gets...the bigger the show will be.

I don't know how long you've been growing it but I found that it liked way more light than what was usually recommended. I got my best bloomings after I moved it to cattleya light...bright but no direct sun.

It's sitting in my sun room which has multiple windows on the north east and west sides with two sky lights in the ceiling. I also have lights on my orchids 8 hours now during the winter. The spike seems to be growing well. I think it's getting enough light though I would not call it bright except for that coming from the artificial light
