My woes

I entered the greenhouse this morning. I found my Angraecum sesquipedale's bud had broken off because it fell over. But there is a small strange growth off to the side of the main bloom used to be. Could that form to be another bloom? Oh my woes for the lost three months of effort.

Sorry for your loss! We all go through that every now and then, unfortunately. It happened to me with the first orchid I ever got to rebloom, dropped the plant and the bud came right off. It just killed me. My first one!

It happened to me too. My very first orchid and my very first re-bloom fell. One entire flower spike with all the buds broke off just before opening. I really felt like crying. Just gotta move on and look forward to the future blooms. Sometimes the blooms make the plant top heavy, now I stick them in a heavier pot when they get like that.

These things definitely happen. I knock spikes off quite frequently. Four or five years ago, I bought a Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' just for the leaves because I figured that at least I would have that!
My Angraecum magdalenae's first bloom got nibbled on by something before it opened and got these little black spots on the back...that showed through and ruined the appearance. I had been looking forward to the first bloom since I got it as a small seedling!!!!
I did get to enjoy that wonderful fragrance, though.
I also recently knocked off both spikes from my Burr. Nelly Isler. Fortunately, the two buds at the bottom of one spike survived. Then there is that Brassavola nodosa. It was in spike but I don't think it is now.

Yep, I do the same now, learned that lesson the hard way.

My Angraecum sesquipedale usually has 2 or 3 blooms per spike. Hopefully what you are seeing are the other buds forming. Sorry you lost the first bud.

Yes, it is a wonder that I ever have flowers on my orchids! :0

I think we all have the same problems....I get lucky to get a few flowers since I stopped buying the ones in bud and blooming already. Some take a very long time to get back to flowering again if ever for some of us.

Soooo heres how you deal with that...you concentrate on growing good looking plants even without a bloom, then you take em inside and call em 'Houseplants'

Except...most of my other houseplants are much more attractive than the out-of-bloom orchids!

My Nelly Isler is putting out a new spike and the Brassavola is putting out new growths. Brassavola Little Stars is getting ready to bloom. I am going to be very careful around all three!
