Mystacidium capense siblings in bloom
Hello All,
I obtained these two siblings 2 years ago from a Hawaiian seller online (it slips my mind which one but I think it was H&R). The plants were in 2 inch pots and had decent roots, 3 inch leaf span and I put them on a pieces of plum and manzanita wood.
They flowered last summer right after establishing a few roots on their mounts, 2 spikes each and 11 - 15 flowers per spike. I was surprised by their vigor and the fragrance was incredible, jasmine and vanilla mixed together.
This year the plants held 5 and 6 spikes respectively, the blooms were over an inch across. The leaf span is only 4.5 inches and the plants don't seem to stop growing as long as water and food is provided.
I keep them warm and grow them very bright, cattleya aclandiae and violacea are sitting right next to these on the growing wall. I have noted they slow down a bit in the winter due to light being more scarce but they have not had any problems with fungus or pests that I have noticed.
Who else has these and how do you care for them? Anyone been able to get additional growths to emerge from the base of the plant of have they stayed solitary in your conditions as well?
