They are sold from cuttings. I rarely see this being sold from seedlings or flasks. You need a jewellers head magnifier to hand pollinate or self this, the flowers are very tiny. |

Hi Subrosa. I'm finding that it's not easy to propagate with cuttings. I'm trying to get some new plantlets started from my plant ( http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ree-bloom.html). It's been rough going. Hopefully, I'll get a plant or two to take. |

I have done it twice to give to friends. The bracts as they age grow small roots. It takes a pretty big stem that has multiple roots to succeed. They both mounted their stems and they are doing well tied to their mounts.
This is my distichum that was awarded 2/3 years ago. If you look at the lower stems you will see long roots and this is what I cut off to share.

Incredible plant you have there. 
Really slayed me at the most recent show I attended -- saw several distichiums for sale that were a tad bigger that mine but had numerous branches started for about the same price I had purchased mine a year or two ago (and I think it was even the same vendor  )!

Well, heck, I have seen this plant before... now that I see the "big picture." It is a humonguous specimen plant growing in my friend's cave. Have never seen it in bloom before, and always wondered why he made such a fuss over it. Now.I.Know. 
And am also a tad irritated at myself, because he offered me a start a couple of years ago, and I said, "nah, I don't think so." LOL... what a foolish WWitchin I am. |
