Angraecum leonis question.
Default Angraecum leonis question.

Hello, I am in dire need of guidance... I have a old Angraecum leonis that has been sitting in my orchid tank for a few years now and has been growing like a weed, but it has yet to flower . I think it is blooming size for a Comoro Island form as it has a leaf span of over a foot in width....I already know that they need high light in order to bloom and this specimen is receiving about 2,500 footcandles of light with my mini cats, so I don't think that is the problem.....Is there a temperature or other stimulator of flowering that I am missing???
Humidity: 80%-90%
Temp: 87 degrees F almost year round during the day about 75 at night...its Arizona and hard to control the temps in my orchidarium.

for mine, it seems that it likes a temp difference (day/night) to bloom.

if you can share a pic or two , that would be awesome.

I think its still not getting enough light. I couldn't flower mine till I hung the plant up with the Vandas. It didn't yellow, just went a paler green & flowers every year now.

Default Thanks guys

It won't let me post a picture because I'm a new member...
Vanda light might be doable, but my metal halide light might fry it first; as it is in a partially enclosed aquarium...I suppose i'll try to move the light a wee bit closer. perhaps I should overwinter it at night in a colder room??? that's the only way I can increase the night temperature difference. My parents will kill me if I mess with the house thermostat lol.

The Madagascar form goes through a cooler, drier winter, something that happens naturally to it in my home. I have that type. I am not certain whether your leonis needs these same conditions but I would imagine it to be so. Some of the angraecums like year-round hot/warm temps and some need the cooler, drier winter temps.

Roy, do you need to give yours a bit cooler temps/drier conditions? I always wondered if I could skip the drier part.

To me the plant has only just got to flowering size. It could flower smaller but not always possible.

Compared to some of its relatives it is miniature but is still huge to others in the family.
