Just flowered a couple days ago. I was growing it in leca and a clay pot, but the plant keeps falling over whenever I watered it since more than half the roots are aerial, so I decided the mount on cork bark (this was after flower already formed).

Smells like licorice or root beer if you put your nose right up to it.

Thanks for the story, I was actually considering getting a new one (my old one died a long time ago sans flowers (ever)), and putting it in semi-hydroponics. I can't keep up with its needs mounted. Nice flower, congrats.

You could semi-hydro this if there were some way to hold it upright, maybe tie it against the pot; or better, mount it to a stick and let it sit half submerged in LECA.

I've been playing around with sphagnum moss ever since I started mounting. When I grew orchids in pots, any amount of sphagnum would seem to induce rot even with LECA substrate, clay pots, and dry So. Cal climate. I couldn't understand how other people got it going. But with mounts, a little big of sphagnum dry up in minutes or hours.

The thing I found about this didieri is even though all the cultures seemed to specify low to medium light, I could put it up against an open west window with the screen at 3000-4000 fc and the roots will start growing. Otherwise, it wouldn't even budge.
