You could semi-hydro this if there were some way to hold it upright, maybe tie it against the pot; or better, mount it to a stick and let it sit half submerged in LECA.
I've been playing around with sphagnum moss ever since I started mounting. When I grew orchids in pots, any amount of sphagnum would seem to induce rot even with LECA substrate, clay pots, and dry So. Cal climate. I couldn't understand how other people got it going. But with mounts, a little big of sphagnum dry up in minutes or hours.
The thing I found about this didieri is even though all the cultures seemed to specify low to medium light, I could put it up against an open west window with the screen at 3000-4000 fc and the roots will start growing. Otherwise, it wouldn't even budge.
