Angraecum eburneum v. comorense?

I got a plant labeled as Angraecum eburneum v. comorense, but it doesn't seem to be a correct name. I think it used to be Angraecum comorense, but it is now synonymous to Angraecum eburneum ssp. superbum. Am I correct? I don't know much about this genus, and bought a couple Angraecum without doing much background check. I'm a little puzzled because I bought both A. eburneum v. comorense and A. eburneum superbum from Oak Hill Gardens at the same time (early this summer). I'm wondering why they use two different names for the same species. Any idea?

According to OrchidWiz they are not the same species. Angraecum eburneum ssp. superbum I believe is a subspecies. I grow eburneum and is definitely is a broad strap leaved monopodial orchids.

Angraecum comorense, whos recognized name is now Jumellea comorensis seems to have more of a grassy growth with alternating leaves on both sides of the stem. The flowers also seem smaller.


I certainly am not an Angreacum expert I own and grow the one species

Due to Kew´s World Checklist of Selected Plant Families that track the scientific litterature and try to sort out the latest accepted botanical names, there have been two different plants described as Angraecum comorense.

Angraecum comorense Kraenzl., Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 17: 60 (1893)

and

Angraecum comorense (Rchb.f.) Finet, Bull. Soc. Bot. France 54(9): 13 (1907), nom. illeg.



The first is synonym to Angraecum eburneum subsp. superbum (Thouars) H.Perrier, in Fl. Madag. 49(2): 315 (1941). and the second is synonym to Jumellea comorensis (Rchb.f.) Schltr., Beih. Bot. Centralbl. 33(2): 428 (1915). Easy to distinguish on size, flower and growth habit !


An Angraecum eburneum v. comorense is not in Kew´s list and therefore has probably never been mentioned in the botanical litterature. I would say that it is a horticultural name that is used by growers, to have jet another specie to sell...
or used by orchid growers just to have another plant that can be awarded.

Thank you Dave and Magnus. I didn't know there used to be A. comorensis describing two different species. That's weird. I think mine is not Jumellea comorensis. When I ordered them from Oak Hill, it was described as A. eburneum v. comorense (they don't seem to have this listed any more). I re-checked the label, and it actually says A. comorense. So I think it is same as A. e. ssp. superbum as Magnus suggested. My two Angraecum eburneum seem to be strong growers. This species is supposed to be pretty big. How big do they usually become under cultivation?
