This is the 3rd time I try this species, but I'm only now starting to get the hang of it. I've had this one some 2 years now, and this is the 1st time blooming for me.

Beautiful nicely grown! I have had one for a year now and it's grown 2 new leaves and a root... How do you grow yours & what have you learnt from your different attempts?
Thanks for posting

That is a spectacular show. Very, very nice. Mine is blooming, too, but has far fewer flowers. My little guy didn't seem happy mounted so it is now in lava rock and a small net pot...lots of air, a little more moisture.

Geez, so for your third attempt you bought a specimen plant? Beautiful showing on this one. It's on my list of potential purchases, but I can't seem to get myself over the purchase hump if you will. This may change my mid.

Gorgeous!! I had one for 2 years that was doing fantastic until last fall I forgot it in water for a week. A shame, because it had 3 fans and I got 9-10 spikes on it. I love how each fan puts out multiple spikes! I need to get a new one...

Nenella- This is a very slow growing plant, and the grower I got mine from said to keep it somewhat cool at night during the winter, as well as strongly reduce watering. I did that by putting it between the window and curtain at night, and then got all those fabulous spikes. If it's really because of the cool nights and keeping it on the dry side, I can't say.

Very nice Ezil! Congrats! I find this plant difficult to grow in my conditions, I've had one for 4 years and it grows for a while, then goes down (looses leaves and roots), then grows again. I have it in a terrarium misted twice daily. Right now is is in bloom but I lost a spike to spider mites, just go lucky they didn't go on the other spike. It is mounted on bark and is doing better than before when it was potted.
I love those flowers a lot, they are like little sugar crystals!

I love this species! I actually had mine growing outside in Hawaii and it grew pretty quickly. So much so, that when I moved to Texas I split it in half and sold a piece assuming it would grow back just as quick. Wrong!! The piece I kept languished, but is making a comeback (it's mounted) in my terrarium and is throwing spikes. It seems like this one prefers high humidity and the ability to dry between waterings, though mine now gets the dry/wet cycle 2x per day.

Sorry ezil, I didn't mean to highjack your thread or anything! Your plant actually looks very happy and I would definitely love to hear about your cultural conditions. Any tips?

Thank you all for commenting. I did not get a specimen plant, but a mature fan that put out a new growth and roots. The other fans are the product of the last year when I decided to mount the plant. It had lost some roots, and is better on the mount. I grow it cooler than my phals and most angs (the same conditions as my gastochilus japonicus, my schoenorchis fragrans and mediocalcar decoratum). It's very hard to keep the humidity up in wintertime, anywhere in Alberta, so I grow them in a terrarium. I have baby tears and sphagnum moss on a layer of lava rock on the bottom. That gets watered regularly, but the plants only get misted 1 -2x per week in winter and NO fertilizer until I see signs of new growth. All these plants are prone to root rot if kept too wet, and very salts sensitive. Having them mounted lets me observe the condition of the roots. Hope this helps, but please keep the comments coming, because I feel I still have a lot to learn.
