Hi all, my plant is at last putting out a new root and also growing something ... Is this a spike? thanks for your input.

Your plant looks great. But that seems to be a new growth, and not a spike. Spikes look very different, you can see the cluster of immature buds almost right from the beginning, and they grow quite fast. And it's a bit late for spiking, these bloom spring through end of summer.
