Default Aerangis brachycarpa

We submitted this plant for AOS judging as Aerangis splendida. It was given a provisional CHM pending taxonomic verification. The plant was identified by Stig Dahlstrom at Selby and the CHM (85 points) now stands as Aerangis brachycarpa 'Joanna'

The flowers look like birds in flight !
Are they fragrant?

The flowers are very fragrant! And you hit the nail on the head ... the award description reads "flowers reminiscent of tethered birds in flight."

Thank you! Beautiful pictures, indeed. Was it originally a digital photo, or scanned printed photo ? I would like to have, if it is possible, a higher resolution (perhaps, original digital, as it came from your camera), both to make screen wallpapers (for myself and for my daughter), and for drawing (so a large size photo is a help). I am no artist, but with graphical tablet one can do many things.

Thank you !

The photos are digital images as they came from my camera. Sorry, nothing with higher res. WYSIWYG

We were given an original award slide by the AOS photographer. The image should be in the AQ Plus 3.0 program.

Unfortunately, these images are all that is left of my Aerangis brachycarpa - the plant perished soon after its award.

PS ... if you pm me, I'll send a photo file (digital images) that went with the flowers that I sent to Selby for identification.

The plant and flowers were outstanding!

Do you have an idea about what happened? I want to buy some Aerangis and perhaps your experience could help.

If I were to venture a guess, I'd say the plant suffered from excessive handling and exposure to show conditions that were quite different from what it would usually have in our greenhouse at the end of October (in New Hampshire). We grow mostly vandas; several aerangis species and hybrids share the growing space, but get less light than the vandas. Our exhibit space was in a very open corridor, unfortunately directly across from the display was a huge terrace door that let in near arctic blasts every time it opened.

BTW, I bought my plant from J&L Orchids in Connecticut - it originally came from Lorens Grobler in South Africa.
