Default Is anyone elses Sesquipedale Spiking?

Hey guys how are you all? I was looking at my Sesquipedale the other day and i figured i look between the leaves(cuz last year my spike stalled and i decided i would look at where the spike was emerging from and i found a mealybug!!! the spike died!) and when i looked to make sure it was in good health i saw a spike!!!! its getting bigger too!!!! its not poking out from in between the leaves yet i imagine it would be some time before that happens........Im so excited!
is this the normal time to see spikes starting develop anyone else have one starting???

Also what is too cold to leave it out side? we had a cold snap with the nighttime lows to the low 40's for the next two days it will continue. then the night time temps will be in the mid 50's for the foreseeable future.

Congrats on the spike! Mine doesn't have a spike. I have it only since April, it just grows new leaves and roots. Do you have to put it outside to induce blooming by lower temps? If yes, is it too late for me to do it, I am in zone5. Thanks

i dont know what initiates spiking to be honest!!! ive had it outside all spring and summer it was only making new leaves and then 3 or 4 months ago i shot out a flush of new roots and they are still going around the inside of the pot so im happy about that.

Im new to This plant also i got it last November, im still learning about it. it seems to be trouble free........so far
