When I got it, I thought it was in a bark mix (as that was on top). However, it felt quite heavy for its size and so a closer inspection found a load of moss packed into the pot with bark on top. I've found in the past that moss doesn't work for me, so I tweezered out about 2/3s of the moss and filled the rest of the pot with a bark, peat, perlite mix I use for pleiones. My reasoning was that straight bark would create a dry top and a wet bottom (as there's still moss at the bottom) and so this would help even it out more - so far so good!

Beautiful didieri!! Didn't know that this was a fragrant one. I was going to get one when I ordered some orchids last week, but I was a bit late getting my order sent and they sold out...
As to others that you could grow, you should consider Aerangis fastuosa. It's a small plant that makes quite large blooms for its size. They smell like asian lilies. I have one, and love it!! I grow all my angraecoids mounted, they really love is that way as long as you keep them from drying out too much. My Aerangis citrata (small plant, but will make huge spikes when mature) wasn't doing well potted, and as soon as I stuck it on a mount the roots really took off. Aerangis fastuosa is a bit slowly to adjust.

Thanks Camille, I'll definately keep them in mind for future purchases I put an order in with Schwerter yesterday and a leonis fell into my cart, so I'm looking forward to trying that one.

It is difficult to stop at just one. I have five! They are: didieri, leonis, magdalenae, sesquipedale and distichum. It will be a long while until the sesquipedale blooms but hopefully the others will do so in a year or two. I really love the foliage but...I do want blooms!

Ha ha, I feel the same way about my paphs!! Had a blasted bud this year from one, and the others should be big enough this coming season - so fingers crossed!

I went away for 10 days, leaving hubby in charge of the orchids, and when I got home, my A didieri was in bloom! It is so graceful.
