Angraecum sesquipedale: Evolution from bud to bloom.
A previous post inspired me to do this. I have taken pictures everday for the past three weeks of my Angraecum sesquipedale. I got it form my friend in Florida when it was in small bud. The spur had just started forming and the anticipation was high. There were two buds, but the 2nd one never grew, but as long as I got to see one flower open I was okay. Some people say that this plant's scent doesn't smell all to good, but I believe it smells Heavenly.
Anyways, here are some pictures from the day I got it to January 14th. Sorry there is a big gap between the 2nd and 3rd pictures. When I crop pictures, for some reason my compuer makes the pictures too big.
For a sesquipedale that spur is short. The spurs can get up to 18 inches. That is what sesquipedale means. Foot and a half. I don't think mine got as long because it went from being outside in a greenhouse with not much care personally to being in a house with lots of care and a big bright window to grow in. Also, I believe this is the first bloom for this plant because there is only one flower.
I agree the fragrance is wonderful. My spur is 9 1/2 inches, the flower is beautiful. Love seeing the bloom open day by day. I have a second bud I'm hoping to see it open. Thanks for sharing.
