Default Angreacum Lemförde, great traveler

Angreacum Lemförde 'White Beauty' is a primary hybrid of sesquipedale x magdalenae and seems to have inherited the best of both, the long nectary of sesquipetale and the beautiful petals, and smaller size of magdalena. It begins wafting its famous perfume at night even before fully open. (My daughter thinks, that during the day it is off-gasing scents that reminds her of delicious meat.)

First bloom for this seedling that sustained superficial injuries going through the security check at the airport while I was transporting it to Chicago to give to my daughter, as you can see, last photo.

Grew nicely in modified S/H (always sitting in 1 inch nutrient solution in the saucer) as a houseplant in the N.E. with supplemental light only in the Winter. Easiest Angraecum for me so far.

A truly spectacular cross this is, between the 'king' and 'queen' of the angraecums! Excellent blooming - do you keep watering during the winter? Any cooling down or intermediate year around? I need to get one of these!

Congratulations on its first bloom. I have had one of these for 11 years. Now it is in one gallon pot and is a reliable bloomer for me.

Thanks you so much for the positive comments and encouragement.

I grow passive hydro in leca and aim for 1 inch nutrient solution in a deep saucer at all times, with bottom holes on the pot. I seldom use the one pot method, which is the patented S/H method. (I really cannot hold heavy pots in one hand long enough to give them the thorough flushing that is needed to get rid of toxic salts and debris) Since I do not use an automatic feed/watering system, I do not see much advantage in the one pot method.

Calvin, it is getting what my Catts get, all year ~120pp nitrogen solution, flush/fill 1-2x/week+clear water flush1-2x/month. Most important, I change out top lecca with toxic salts every time it becomes visible and definitely when I see new root tips coming. (Sometimes, I just boil out the salts in a lot of water and put it back for the same plant) As you know, Angrecoids seldom give you a second chance on this years new roots. Supplemental light in the Winter may stay on for 20 hours when I am away and it did not seem to prevent blooming. Of course, this is a hybrid.

By the way, your Ang. photos are really great. Do you grow them all?

Molly, how often does it bloom for you?
Robert Bedard wrote that his blooms 3 times a year and he gives it no rest. As I recall he grows it in a greenhouse with the Catts.

Mine blooms once a year. Here is the picture from this year's bloom.http://www.orchidboard.com/community...te-beauty.html Two more spikes developed as these flowers faded.

It put out one spike at a time for three times last year, but when I saw the third one growing I cut it off to give the plant some break.

Thanks for the cultural tips - I seem to have hit and miss luck with these larger angraecoids. I have an ang. sesquipedale seedling in some hydroton that is just learning how to be alive again after a year or so of rotting and sulking in my conditions. My Ang. magdelanae on the other hand seems to enjoy itself and is blooming for the second season in a row.

Yes those photos on flickr are my plants; angraecoids are my favourite group of orchids I've mainly been restricted to small compact species (and it's great that so many of them are like that) but will definitely need to add this one to the collection.

These are just gorgeous!

I don't understand why someone has been rating Angreacum threads low, even if they don't like the flower it seems unfair.

I don't generally use the ratings at all, but I've given this a high rating to at least bring the average up a bit.
