Default January Blooms

Several of my babies are in the process of producing spikes and buds, but these guys are the ones that have done their best to please me this month. A few of them suffered some damage to their developing buds during a brief one night cold spell in November. Unfortunately I was unable to bring them in from 32 degree temperatures that night and as a result they lost a few blooms.

Thank you. The Dend. is a Noid and was a Mother's Day gift from my son last year. This was it's first bloom while in my care. Unfortunately this one suffered some cold damage and lost 5 blooms.

Oh, you just know me, "the noid queen", too well. Actually, a couple of them do have names. One of them is a Onc. Sharry Baby 'sweet fragrance' and the last one is a Rhyncostylis gigantea 'Red'.

Spell them? I can't even pronounce them, but I try real hard to grow them.

Thank you Sheridan. I hope you're doing well. Orchid culture is no replacement for your loss, but it's very therapeutic. I deliberately bought 5 bare root baggy orchids shortly after the death of my daughter. I could have purchased healthy mature specimens, but instead chose some that needed extra attention. After that I began investing in "rescue plants". Now I have quite the collection of Noids and am more fond of them than the ones with names because they helped me to survive my loss.

Hey Lady, you have a greenhouse and that makes me a little green. When it gets cold out, like tonight, I have to bring all the plants inside. The lizards and frogs hitch a ride and come indoors too. It's rather entertaining to watch my hubby running scared from the harmless little reptiles and amphibians.
