That's what they do best! Good job. Many (if not most) Aerangis and some Pleurothallis have bright red/orange ends. It's a good thing.

pretty cool. there's several closely related species that have variation in root tip color. neofinetias, for example, have varieties with red or purple tips.

Ross! I didn't KNOW that! How cool! Mine has been growing mounted and never once did I see an orange root. This is new for this one that I repotted a month or so ago!
Lambelkip! I know about the Neofinetia root colors and just love that about them!

It means you are getting a sufficient amount of light to them. They like pretty bright light (by and large) and red tips is similar to red on leaves. Roots and root tips photosynthesize, you know. My Neo on the mount in the tank has red root tips as well. It gets approx 1800 foot candles. The ones up in the south window have green tips, but no artificial lighting. You know my thoughts on this.

Oh hey... I have this plant! Mine's not -quite- blooming size yet, but boy is it getting there fast! What made you decide to take it off its mount, Gwen? Was it having problems? Or did you just have an excess of your very cute little pots?
