Default Aerangis Articulata

So... I bought this little guy in March (I think? I have bought a lot of plants since January ) and I am a little concerned I don't know if I'm watering too much or not watering enough. Some of the leaves have gotten kind of wrinkly/leathery, and I don't think they are supposed to be. It's a young plant, and not supposed to bloom for another couple years, so I'm not looking for spikes.... but I would like to be able to get it to that point

The first picture is the day I got it (taken with the crappy camera I had at the time, and not so wonderful lighting) and the other two are of it today (obviously taken outside and with a much better camera.)

Also... I would like to move most of the orchids outside when it's warm enough that night temperatures are more stable. Would it be ok outside with the vandas? It can get pretty hot in Ontario during the summer.....

Hiya,

I think the wrinkly leaves means it's getting a little too dry. . .maybe just overall humidity is too low? I've got my Aerangis in quite high humidity and medium bright light. Watering daily.

Have doubts about putting it outside because of that but I am basing my thoughts on my conditions.

Sure do like that articulata!!!

Angraecoids (including this little guy) need to be really humid to do well. I have never had any luck with mine outside the Wardian Case where humidity ranges from 90%-99% most of the time. If you lived in a really humid climate, then I'd say outdoors would be fine. But not anywhere in Canada except, perhaps, Vancouver Island.

It's pretty humid where I am in Ontario. I'm not as close to the lake as I was last year, but still.. it's pretty high. I do mist him every day... but the instructions I was given for it was to give it a "bath" when the moss dried out and got crinkly. This seems to work for the Phal lobbii and the Leptotes bicolor I got with it (all the same instructions), but this guy is getting the wrinkly leaves. Guess... I'll dunk it more often...?

Yep! Way wetter. If there is any way to keep the plant really humid, but not wet, I would go that way.

Shams, I have a question ..when you 'give them a bath'- how long do you keep them soaking? & are the Phal lobbii and the Leptotes bicolor also mounted?

Yep, all three are mounted on bits of wood with a little bit of moss for them to cling to. They are too light to just let sit in the water, so I've been holding the moss and roots under water until the air bubbles stop popping. So a couple minutes. I can't forget about them in the bath for an hour like the vandas

thats why I asked you ! 'cause I have recently been given a Neo mounted on cork ( have the same prob of it floating ...) as well as a - bare root Ascocentrum Minatum ...both of which I am worried about not getting 'enough' humidity...alredy killed a vanda a few years ago...
The Neo hardly had any moss on it so I have added a layer and keeping it in my mini mini self made green house (just a huge water botttle; cut to make a "top" and "bottom " with a deep layer of terracotta pebbles..)to keep humidity 'up'- thanks for your input...
So, to come back to your leaves ...seems like you need to get yours alot more wet & get that humidity up as Ross says !
Have you tried leaving it in the bath longer?

I don't know that keeping it in longer would do much good... but if I do it more often, it should be ok

I mist mine daily. I water it good every other day. Mine is a different type of aerangis, though.
