Question 54 / 5 000 Angraceum distichum - browning and falling of leaves

Hello Everyone!

I recently bought a beautiful specimen of Angraecum distichum, which I mounted on a piece of cork oak bark and placed in my first orchidarium (I became interested in growing orchids last year and I am still learning how to take care of them properly).

Unfortunately, for several weeks now I have been observing a gradual deterioration in the condition of my Angraecum, which initially started to develop wrinkles on its leaves, and then they started to turn brown and fall off.

The conditions in my orchidarium are as follows - humidity ranges from 60 to 80%, constant air circulation is ensured thanks to the installed fan, the temperature is between 23 and 29 °C, and the light comes from an LED lamp covered with white paper. Following the suggestion of one of the forum members under one of the posts, I took out my Angraecum and placed it in a jar filled with damp sphagnum so that the moss touches the plant on the largest possible surface, but so far it has not worked and the plant has lost two more leaves.

Could I ask for help and suggestions as to what may be the cause of the poor condition of my orchid? I have attached photos of the Angraceum just after purchase, and its current condition.

Thank you in advance for your help.

How are you watering it? How often?

Did it arrive bare-root, or did you unpot it to mount it? What you are seeing can happen to a plant that has roots damaged during repotting, or moving to a mount. When enough roots are damaged the plant will be unable to take up enough water until it grows more roots.

I received it already mounted to the bark.

I don't see many roots - this plant may have been very recently divided and mounted. (It is prolific, it is possible that the seller just clipped off some growths and tied it to the mount) So it may need to grow some new roots to be happy. Give it time. I grow it in sphagnum in a small basket. Once it becomes established, it blooms on and off all year.
