Sedirea japonica putting out new spike, cut or let grow?

I have a Sedirea Japonica that blooms like clockwork in late February through much of March, it just completed it’s bloom cycle, and was a bit worse for the wear after being on display in the house for over a month. The plant looked dehydrated and lost one of the bottom leaves. It’s now back in decent humidity and has perked up, however it’s putting out another spike now. Should I allow it to grow the spike, or cut it in an effort to get it to put its efforts towards more leaves and roots?

Plants make such “decisions” based upon their stock of phytochemical reserves and the conditions they are in.

If a plant “feels” like another spike is appropriate, leave it alone.

That said, if it is in really bad shape - and I mean REALLY bad shape - it might be a last-ditch attempt to reproduce before dying, but it doesn’t sound like that’s the case.

Thanks for the input Ray! I’m going to leave it alone, but not display the plant in the house on this blooming.
