Default Aerangis mystacidii spike watch

Hope everyone is well and thanks for checking out my spike watch thread.
This one should be ready in about a months time I think.

The main reason I am posting this is because every time I spot a flower spike on the mystacidii I get excited something has grown but then I need to double and triple check it looks alive.

No other orchid looks like it is growing a dead twig as much as a mystacidii when it flowers

There is a shrivelled flower spike next to it so rest assured, even though it looks a bit brown and my first reaction was "oh no did this dry up?" I can assure everyone it is very much alive and looking and doing well.

I'm excited to see it flower, Aerangis take years to mature! but to those unaware it is an acquired taste. The smell is so powerful the dried flowers keep the fragrance for 6 months after they have dropped.

PS: I'm a bit conscious of the horrible looking yellow leaves on the pic and you might think this pant is suffering a bit so I am conscious of that fact but just to explain those leaves are the original leaves it came with. They just don't want to drop but the newest leaf is looking great so I just felt like I had to blame the crappy leaves on the shop lol

Hi Sade, not really a fan of this one myself, haha.

I like the bright orchids myself like this Epidendrum flower from a couple months ago. I've been meaning to find an opportunity to sneak this puny little flower in somewhere

nice! if the mystacidi ever blooms like that for us i don’t care what it looks like i will be happy as a pig in poo. this is one orchid that i just feel doesn’t like the conditions, or me personally, or something. we have a few like that! seriously, looks great....can’t wait to see it open up

Sorry I never showed the flowers of this one.

A bit late, the flowers are long gone already but this is what they looked like

Surprisingly the fragrance changed from last year. The fragrance was nicer this year even if for some reason it was a much weaker fragrance, really had to stick my nose in this year.

It's been attacked by thrips, has lost all its old roots by now but it's growing lots of new roots so I'm optimistic this will keep getting better.

and the old leaves are a great testament to the improved care you have provided it!
