Suggestions for a vivarium?
Default Suggestions for a vivarium?

Been growing many things for decades but, not orchids. I would love to grow a small one in my gecko's vivarium.

It's 18" square, about 20" height for plants. Very warm, 80F now, possibly 90F in summer. Not much cooler at night, maybe 5 degrees. I might try a small fan up to to try to drop the nighttime temps a bit more.

One UV lamp, for the geckos, one 6500K lamp for the plants, Compact Flourescent, may switch to LED later.

Very humid. MistKing system will be installed, for now, a fogger, it's never less then 50%, usually 75% humidity.

There is one sort of shaded corner if needed. I have tried to check into the plants listed as good for terrariums but it is a long list and I know so little about orchids, aside from admiring them greatly.

Something that blooms and looks a little unusual would be a wonderful accent to this vivarium. Ideally, not a white or green flower, but, nothing is a deal breaker.

Current plants are things such as minature ficus vines, small ferns and similar, with 3 tiny Tillandsias.

Any suggestions about what to look for would be so very welcome.

Haraella odorata or Phymatidium tillandsioides would be a good choice for the shady corner.

They are both just lovely, and I am always enchanted by fragrant blooms.

Thank you so much. The trick will be finding either of these in Canada.

I suspect the Haraella won't be too hard to track down up North, but the Phymatidium is likely another matter!
