As I stated in the introduction page. I’m very new to this and my setup is very new...some plants less than a week others around a month. I’ve encountered some hurdles and I have some upgrades to do (lighting, ditching the slab wood mount, and hygrometer). Comments, questions and criticism welcome.
Currently caring for:
Haraella retrocalla
Epidendrum porpax
Podochilius muricatus
Oeceoclades spathulifera

Interesting, what is this made of? It looks nice and plants seem to be doing well so far. What are you using for lights? What are you using in the bottom? Do you plan on using a fan in here.

In regards to the slab wood mount, be very careful of the roots if you decide to ditch the mount. Someone very close to me did this and lost several plants as the damage done to the roots was apparently extensive enough that the plants did not survive. She thought she was being careful and very much regretted removing them from their mounts.

If you are able to cut away most of the mount and leave the root area intact, the plant might acclimate better. I have several mounted plants in my tank that are still growing on their original mounts. The moss and the plant itself have disguised the mount pretty well for me. Of course that all depends on where you plan to place this plant in your tank.

I am sure others will have questions and suggestions soon. It looks like a fun project, keep us updated!

The background is spray foam coated with 100% silicone then sprinkled with coco fibers.
The bottom is perforated and has a screen layer for drainage. The soil is ABF type mix.... spaghnum mosss coco fibers and organic soil. Current light is T8 6500k tube....waiting on aquarium LED.
I have a computer fan with 9v battery on the outside near a screened vent 1” opening....still need to fine tune this as well. I too am very leary of replanting the slab...looking for a nice cork round to mount it to

What is the tank made of? I have removed most of my orchids from there mounts, just go slow and be careful of the roots. I then use floral wire bent into a u and pin them to my background. Some I have just taken side cutting pliers and cut the mount down so it does not show as much and then pin it to the background. It does not take long for the plants to cover up the mount. Good luck with the tank, looks like you have a good start.

Are you looking for cork tubes? If so try New England Herpetoculture or Glass Box Tropicals. They both have great terrarium supplies and awesome service.

I hate the look of tree fern mounts but they are very easy to crumble away. The wood slab will take a little work but you could cut it down in size. I hate damaging the roots and some of these little guys have teenie roots. I would soak it well before I tried.

I too am interested in what this tank is made of.

The tank is acrylic...it was originally used as a desicator to keep lab equipment from gaining moisture
Now it’s job is to keep moisture in lol
