Becca, I got mine at MAX-GAIN SYSTEMS, INC. : Fiberglass Price List I bought the black 1/2" and had it cut in half. My tank is 36" inside and HD rods are only 36" so wouldn't work. These work great.

Are the fiberglass rods strong? I would suppose so, and what lengths can you get them in? How clear/translucent are they?
Bill, check out the link I provided. It will answer all your questions. Acrylic might bend too much. Fiberglass is extremely strong, but a bit "bendy".

This weekend I put the front doors on, both the actual plexiglass and the cabinet doors... nice hinges for the cabinet, opens 165* for easy access...

Put the top on, cut holes for the humidistat on left and exhaust fan on right.

Next weekend I'll finish wiring up the lights (which are in place), put the humidity generator part in (bucket in the bottom), and the main drain (fiberglass tray is sloped).

Theoretically I could put plants in next week, but I need to get something to hang the plants with, per our discussion above. I saw some decent fiberglass rods at lowes this weekend. But I'm still looking for something like acrylic to match the finish of everything else.

Some pics (click for bigger pics):

I think, that use of a wood or plywood for bearing designs of constantly damp terrarium is not so good idea. After two years wooden elements will growing through a moss or a mould.

Excellent!!!!!

I am betting you sealed the wood with polyurethan or some sort of marine sealer?

Can't wait to see it all filled up with blooming vandas!

Yes, the wood has been sealed with 3 layers of polyurethane. And the part which will be getting the most moisture has been given a fiberglass resin covering. I have lots of experience with plywood, my last tank which is all plywood has been operating in 70% humidity, and plenty of soakings, drippings of water for the past 3 years and no sign of warping, mildew or any other problems.
