I like the idea of a mash-up of Lassie and Lost in Space. Keep the dog and the robot, but dump the kids. Much cheaper production costs with no child actors and their limited work schedules.

If you added in a cat, you'd get back the women viewers who left when you dropped the kids. The guys would stick around for the robot and the dog.
