Establishing Moss in a Terrarium

Hi all,
I am not having great luck with establishing moss on my hygrolon background.
I have tried tacking up some clumps of moss as well as grinding some moss and trying to get it to grow with only water.
I have read articles like How to Make Moss Graffiti
But I am worried about exposing my orchids in the terrarium to buttermilk and sugar. Has anyone tried something like this in a terrarium with orchids already planted?
