Well with 4 votes in we have a 4-way tie:
12 x 12 x 18
18 x 18 x 24
24 x 18 x 18 and
24 x 18 x 24
We're even split between going tall or wide. (sigh)

Jim, As most of the orchids in mine are minis, I have found the width to be more useful than the height, as none of mine grow that tall. I hope this is of some help!

Another thing to consider is even with a bank of 4 t5's 48" long, you'll still have very little light at the bottom of a 24" tall tank.
