Default My ExoTerra

I finally finished it, seems like it took forever. Ok so here is how I did it. The bottom is terra-lite from Black Jungle, on top of that is a sheet of landscapers weed mat to let water through and keep the mix on top. The mix is coco bedding, flourite, and then fir bark and some coconut husk chips. The wall is a piece of egg shell crate and I used Great Stuff expanding foam to hold the pieces of mopani wood and cork to it and then I put down some brown silicon on the foam and put the coco bedding on that. I put in some more mopani wood for the 'chids to climb on. So far it has 74-77 degrees in the day and 64-67 degrees at night, with 60-85% humidity.

I'll get a list of all the plants as soon as I find all my tags.

You'll have to be sure to tell us what you add! That's a great list already - its going to look great when they flower.

Good job! Is that the 12x12x12 Exo-Terra or the 18x18x18?

I was looking at them on New Year's eve at TFP. They had 10% off all Hagen products for 1 day only. $89.99 for the 18x18x18 and $107.09 for the 18x18x24 tall. Only reason I didn't snap one up was I already spent $140 on fish supplies.

Cheers.
Jim

Hi Jim, its the 18x18x18. I got this one for $86 at a Petco! they had two of them and one was in a box that was all dinged up so I said I wanted the other one but he told me that if he and I took the dinged up on out of the box and inspected it and it was ok , then I could get a discount, so we did.

Default I purposely made this so nothing was permanent

Two weeks ago I took the coco mix out which was easy since I had the weed mat under it. I did not like the idea of the substrate rotting or deteriorating and the orchids could not grow in it from lack of air. My new idea is to leave the terra-lite on the bottom and put black lava rocks on top of that,(used as a soil cover and I know some people use them in their orchid mixes) I will also add some larger lava rocks and more mopani wood for the orchids to grow on. I will post a new thread when I get it finished.

You are so talented, with both the construction and the arrangement of everything. It is something to be very proud of.
