HYGROLON cylinder update - Pleurothallis dressleri! Male
Default HYGROLON cylinder update - Pleurothallis dressleri!

My hygrolon cylinder update - April 2014
RECENT AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE ADDITION (AND ORCHID OWNED BY ME) IS MY DREAM PLANT - MICRO ORCHID PLEUROTHALLIS DRESSLERI!
Plant list:
Bulbophyllum rosary beads
Bulbophyllum moniliforme
Masdevallia 'Don Quijote'
Masdevallia erinacea
Masdevallia herradurae
Masdevallia nidifica
Masdevallia wageneriana
Scaphosepalum rapax
Pleurothallis alata
Pleurothallis dressleri
Pleurothallis calyptrostele
Pleurothalis peperomioides
Haraella retrocalla
Lepanthes telipogoniflora 2x
Lepanthes calodictyon
Lepanthes saltatrix
Lepanthes tentaculata
Lepanthopsis astrophora
Lepanthes NOID
Trichosalpinx chamaelepanthes
Dracula lotax
Dryadella simula
Porpax lanaii

The only 2 miniature orchids that did not grow well on hygrolon were Pleurothallis leptotifolia (removed) and Porpax, still there bud not doing much, all other orchids seems to LOVE hygrolon setup! Also, this one is finished, no more adds, so I will work on some new hygrolon setup this year:-) Enjoy!

Awesome! That is so, so cool!

What's the plant in your last pic? I like it a lot and am wondering if I could find something similar to grow in my terrarium..

RandomGemini, that is the latest addition, Pleurothallis dresssleri, it took me over a year to find it, and it was extremely hard decision to bid on this one, but I just wanted it way too much! However, just a heads up, it is way beyond crazy regarding the price:-))))))))))

I think I'll try for something similar, rather than holding out for something identical. I don't think my husband would understand my spending over 50$ on a single plant. LOL!

It's the leaves that have drawn me to it, do you happen to know of any other orchids with a similar leaf shape that would do well growing along side dracula lotax in a terrarium?

RandomGemini, if this plant was only $50 and easier to find, I would have probably already 5 last year:-) You have to multiple the $50 many times to get this size division of dressleri:-)))) If you are looking for this tiny round shape (they are REALLY small) than there is few Pleuros, I did recently purchase also Pleurothallis calyptrostele, which has no marking like dressleri, but has very tiny nearly the same size leaves, and crawling growing habit, extremely cute and small too, if you like that "watermelon" marking, than my Trichosalpinx chamaelepanthes has nearly the same, but bigger leaves, looking like tiny watermelons, I love that one and have it on hygrolon too. The other that I have and would be similar is Lepanthes platysepala. I am sure there will be more similar ones, I mentioned the pieces I own and know:-)

Would LOVE to have this one but I think I recall someone telling me it may sell for as much as $20 per leaf. Way beyond anything I could afford. *sigh* I'll just have to live vicariously through others, I guess .........
