I agree. I have seen the cool mist evaporative types for under $20 online, or a pharmacies like Walgreens.

Hey, if you think your MIL would appreciate the effort, be a hero of a DIL and buy her a little cool mist humidifier. You don't need to mention the fire risk, just say that it may save her some on her electricity bill (which it probably will).

She's got so many plants I'm almost positive she'd just use the humidifier in another area of the house instead of replacing the crock pot. Some people are hoarders of trash & clothes, she's a hoarder of plants of all kinds, her house and hard is FULL of them.
