Light is not the problem but the wet part is. That's mainly why I built the terrarium. I live in an apartment with either AC or heater on depending on the season and while it creates excellent air flow , everything gets very dry. I have humidity trays for my phals but even with that the humidity without terrarium measures at 30% at best :/ I cant have the humidifier outside the terrarium as my partner does not like humid air so I am kind of screwed there. I will see how vanilla behaves. It has grown only one new leaf in a past month.

For speed, it all depends where it stands as a new plant. If it's just establishing, it'll be very slow, once there's a little bit of roots working and light and water, it'll grow and the bigger it'll be, the faster.

Too bad for the conditions in your home, I can grow them like a house plant using the mass effect with a lot of plants close. It'll give me at least 50% in my conditions, but I'm definitely not in Texas, anyway, anything is dryer in Texas

Note that if you do have to take it out as I think you'll have to, it may grow fine alone as long as:
- you use a pot with a water reserve, I do it, they l-o-v-e it! As long as there's light and warmth, it'll grow and meanwhile it'll need water, a lot!
- make a supporting structure with 3 bamboos for example, joined at the top, and put it up and down to let it root in the pot at each turn. It'll appreciate, especially in a dry environment.
- it doesn't really need the aerial roots, it's for climbing in nature, and aesthetics in collection. If it's too dry they will shrivel, but as long as there's plenty of water downstairs, it'll grow happy.
- At worse, you can use a large plastic bag to cover it, it'll keep enough moisture around, though it's less esthetic… I've use this for 30 years (and now no more, the mass effect works.)

As a side note, 30% is bad for health…

Hope this will help, I count on your Vanilla to show you how it can invaaaade things.
