WOW......this is incredibly creative. I would love to do something like this too. I love to landscape and build and create arrangement in my yard space w/ orchids; so this would be no different fun-wise. My only worry is what does one do when your orchids outgrow the space?

Update on terrarium:
1 Took out cattleya and phal; they were taking too much space
2. added vanilla, few more neos, ghosties are now in vivarium ( chiloschista, big dendrophilax and ton of dendrophilax babies I deflasked a couple of months ago)
3. added a bunch of tropical minis.
4.Maxillaria is blooming, roots are growing like crazy, one of neos is in spike

No bugs, no rot ( knock on wood)- spraying with weak physan every other week.

Thank you for looking

Alla

Wow!! You have inspire me! But vanilla grows large before it flowers. You may want to remove it, just my 2 cents.

My gosh, vegetative growth has been very rapid I see. Not much blooms yet though; well from the photos at least.

Paul,my plan is to train vanilla to grow around the perimeter of the vivarium and keep it trimmed and grow new plants from cuttings. But, removing is always an option though it seems to be loving it there

In all honesty, the vivarium is still pretty new and I am taking it one day at the time.Chiloschista and pleurothalis are done blooming, neofinetia is in spike and maxillaria has 3 flowers on so this is quite a win to me

I attached chilo and pleuro pics from a couple of months earlier

Very nice set up, I'm thinking of something more spartan but that's the idea.

I second on the Vanilla. Once it'll grow at "adult" speed, you'll live a nightmare. If you think orchids grow slowly, definitely not vanillas. My planifolia has grown a good meter in the last month… Keep it out in a wet place with light, it'll be happy and grow like mad without bothering you too much.
