Benefit of gluing

I mainly glue it to Epiweb and I have cut it up in pieces and planted orchids in pots. I have also used pieces of Hygrolon mixed with bark as pure substitute for spagnum moss.
The cloth is some what "rigid" but a little elastic in one direction. The Hygrolon structure do not collapse on its own wet weight when used in normal sized pots (have not tested super large pots but I do feal that it is no problem there either).

Magnus,
What is the benefit to gluing the hygrolon to the epiweb as opposed to just using the epiweb on its own? What type of glue do you recommend?- Alex

Alex, short answer: Epiweb do not transport water, Hygrolon does.
The hydrolon cloth also need some sort of support to be used for mounting as it is not self supporting. You can glue it on whatever material but I chosed Epiweb as I like the airiness of the material and I know that Orchid roots love to grow in it. I also know that Epiweb is safe for orchids, inert and does not break down.
For gluing you can use any glue that you know it safe. If you grow orchids you are not as restricted as if you would like to use it in a terrarium for sart frogs. I have used normal glass silicon (acetic acid hardening) and I have never seen any problems with orchids! Just let the glue cure and it should be safe.

Hi Magnus,
I just came across this thread.
Sounds like a great experiment.
How are things going, now? Are you pleased with the Hygrolon?
I'm very curious about your progress with your setup.
Thanks so much for posting such an interesting and thorough experiment.

Hi Jessica!
Everything went well with this setup. I trashed it when I built my latest setup.

I was VERY pleased with the hygrolon and did built the new larger cabinet as I felt completly confident that the material could deliver.
When I am back from ester I will make a update of the "new" cabinet.

I took a look at your recent post about your new cabinet. That looks fabulous!!! Wow. What a wonderfully creative project. I'm so glad that all your efforts have give you such good results.
Congratulations! And thank you so much for taking us all along on this adventure.
This is very interesting and encouraging to try to adapt something similar, here.
Have a lovely holiday, Magnus.
:-)
