I am also growing in terrariums. I use a 2 bulb 2ft T5 fixture that is directly on top of the plexi glass, which rests on the tank. My exoterra is also 24in tall. The plants are on eggcrate about 5in from the base. I have a lepanthes telipoginiflora in bloom right now, a dend cutherbertsonii bicolor and many others. The light seems to work quite well without burning any leaves.
One problem I am noticing is some of my pluero's are getting purple pigmentation in leaves from the bright light. I have since readjusted them to a less lit tank. My porroglossum's are also doing well. Their new growth starts with pigmentation, when they are small, but outgrows as the fully develop.
I would suggest start running the light without all of the bulbs, maybe two, then work your way up.
A more experienced electrician can help you with the calculations of your lumens in ratio to the distance of the plants. I have done the numbers before, but cannot relay that at the moment. I just go on the plants reaction and feel it out.
I have found that the key is just getting them to acclimate without sudden shocks and with some miniatures, brighter is not always better. Especially with my restrepias.
Good luck. Terrarium growing is well worth the initial cost and labor. Mine is basically worry free, with a few small adjustments here and there.
Happy blooming.
