This is how I converted an old aquarium to be a house for some orchids.
The dimension of the cabinet is 140×55×70 cm. Rather deep but that depends upon that the aquarium is place on side with original opening outwards.
This is what it looked like from the beginning.
First of all I cut the Epi-Web material for the back
I glued it together with silicone as it wasn't long enough.
I prepared my thought of watering system with plastic stripes so I can attach the hose that will spray water into the Epi-Web.
I also attached a mangrove root.
On the bottom there is a plastic material used for outdoor floor building. That is layed on small plastic cubes to get some space for water.
4 pce. pc fans handles the air movement.
To stop that to much of the pine and other small particels get into the water a fiber cloth is put on the false floor.
The cloth let water through but not other stuff I hope.
On top of the cloth I put pine. Mostly because I think it looks good.
As lighting source there are 4 36w flourosent tubes. Not a great deal of light but I hope it to be enough.
All is controplled by timers. 2 timers for the 2 watering systems. 2 timers for the fans and one timer for the lights.
As for now the following is in the vivarium.
Drosera Capensis
This is not an orchid but it fights the flies that seem to like the environment. It is a meat eating spices. Better then the
fly paper I had before to catch them
Vittaria Stipitata
This is a fern, looks like a shoe string.
Microgramma lycopodioides
Another fern.
Pleopeltis polypodioides
Yet another fern.
Leptotes Bicolor
Bulbophyllum carunculatum
Gongora armeniaca
Sigmatostalix radicans
Kefersteinia tolimensis
Godiera ssp
Medicolor Decoratum Fredensborg
Bulb.echinolabium
