Nope! Trial and error is key. If you need really bright conditions, buy a 4 bulb HO T5 system. If the conditions are too bright, then you can take out a bulb or two. I would also not buy a reef fixture unless you have some cash to burn. Get a system for plants as they are a bit cheaper. I have pics of a two foot fixture with four bulbs in this thread:
29gal Orchidarium and a two foot, two bulb fixture here:
10gal Orchidarium I have since switched the fixtures over the tanks and put my bright light plants under the 4 bulb system and the low light plants under the two bulb system. Darn, now that I write that out, I feel really dumb for not doing that to start!
Anyway, those lighting systems are fractionally as expensive as the reef systems and just as good. Not quite as flashy though I guess.
