before you buy a mist system... look into a simpler idea.

for a very long time i have used a 2L 7-up bottle, with an air pump connected to the bottle with drip irrigation line, and a regular misting head used for drip irrigation setups and more drip tubing with great success.

the key is to put the airline in above the surface of the water in the bottle, and the line out below the level of the water inside the bottle. the quality of the mist can be controlled by adding more airpumps, or using a smaller aperture misting head.

the pump blows air into the container, the pressure is relieved by blowing water out the other side through the mist head.

cost less than 20$ to make.. has worked 1000's of hours without fail. the mist is not as fine as the mist from a mistking system, but is a fraction of the price, much quieter, and works similarly.

i now use the mistking on my show tank, and for my less pretty tanks, the DIY version...

Hi Dorothy! I was out of town when you started this thread and I wanted to give you my input! I have a Mist Maker Mini (for shallow containers) that came with my orchidarium. I love it, but......
1) The water splashes out....I am searching for a splash guard that fits the mini mist maker...I have found them for the regular and may try and make that work
2) Because the water splashes out, I cannot keep enough water in the container to use a timer to turn it on and off multiple times during the day

So as soon as I find a solution, I will let you know. I was told the Mist Maker would fill my entire orchidarium with fogg so thick I wouldn't be able to see in it....I have yet to have this happen....but maybe it will when I fix the water splashing part! I'll post an update in a week or so!

I think the trick to the fogger is to set it in a basin that covers as large as surface area of water as you can provide .. the more surface, the more fog.
I have heard about the splashing and I have seen splash guards online for sale .. check eBay
I have yet to purchase a fogger/mister at this time as I am waiting for other supplies for my Exo.
One step at a time

Kelley's Korner Orchid Supplies
Kelley's Korner has a mist-maker that may fit the ticket. Their 'kits' include decorative containers, waterfalls, lights, and mini-foggers.
