a background with foam, does it work?

last month I got a foam background from local store. It looks like real woods very much, I settled on it when the first sight I saw it.

It was made of a kind of material like foam. Good thing is that i can cut it easily to fit my tank furthemore i can easily use nails to fix plants on. Bad thing is that it is not real wood and almost cann't cantian any water.

Now I have attached some orchids, air bromeliads and ferns on it with nails. I want to see if orchids can root on it.

Do anyone of you using foam background? How do your orchids like it?

Welcome to the Board. Your topic interests me a lot. The type of back ground you're using often comes here with the reptile tank (and I have a few of those). I have chosen not to use them because I was afraid that the chemicals from the paints ad foam would eventually affect the roots of my plants. I would love to hear how this works out for you in the long run. Keep us posted.

Thank you ezil. I also worried about the paint at that time, but someone told me that he had used this kind of back ground in his aquarium and the paint didn't resolve in water. So I think it maybe not that harmful.

But still thank you for your reminding. I'll continue oberserving my plant's status on board. It's cold here, so all orchids grow very very solwly. Hope the winter pass soon

Thank you Zoi2. Orchdarium is a quite new thing in my country, and there is almost no more information about it. I just found this BBS by chance. It's amazing. I've leant a lot from here
