Default Temporary Orchidarium

I've had this aquarium set-up for some of my small, lower light orchids..

This pix is with the top off...& I have a small computer fan (hanging on the left) and a hygrometer out of one of my humidors...nothing fancy but everyone in it seems to be doing well...

What is the gallon size of the aquarium? Can you indicate the relative humidity level that's normally kept within it, please? I have an old hundred gallon glass tank that I've been seriously considering turning into an orchidarium. Do you use flourescent lights, or does your tank sit near a window? Nice picture, by the way. I like the twisted looking piece of wood that looks to be the centerpiece of your display.

I posted an article on using an old aquarium at http://www.orchidboard.com/Setting-u...om-Orchidarium and part of the story describes my retrofit aquarium. Hope this helps.

Nice, Rhonda!

Although I just recently got the exo-terra tank, I used an old aquarium set up very similar to yours for about 1 year and a half. The plants that were in it were really happy. (Mine are/were in front of window too.)

I've now mounted mine on pieces of wood (like you have here) and placed that in the new tank on top of hydroton clay pellets. Hopefully, they'll like their new home as well!

It's just a 20 gal., w/no lights, and RH is usually 70-75%. It's sitting at a north-facing window that gets early morning direct light, then just a med. indirect for the rest of the day...

The driftwood used to be in another aquarium that's not set-up now..hate to waste it! Makes a pretty handy stand..

Thanks, Ross and Rhonda, for your responses. Ross, I'll certainly go take a look at that thread. It will probably inspire me to start tinkering before I go to bed this evening.
