It is a bit obvious, but I can always hope! I wouldn't try three all at the same time - that's too obvious. Couldn't you just say you moved some around?

shakkai...it looks wonderful!

I'm starting from scratch...I don't have any cool growing plants at all. The terrarium will be empty for a week or so.

OK, so I am thinking about having 2-3 inches of LECA pebbles on the bottom, as Tin suggested. But instead of any bark based media (or similar) I was thinking of harvesting some green moss and using that on top of the pebbles. My thought is that this would all then be a living environment and much less likely to develop mould, rot, or other such problems. Plus it mimics their natural environment better.

Only 3 or 4 orchids are going to be on the bottom - the ones that are just too big to mount on anything. The rest will be growing (or are already growing) on bog wood that I had for the other aquarium-based set up.

Thought? Suggestions? Potential problems I haven't foreseen?

Sue, I envy you the shopping you are going to be doing to fill this baby!!

Okay! I've been "playing" all morning and found a few around that could possibly work in the new setup. I used a little Ludisia discolor, some Macodes petola, a few keikis from my Bulbo odoratissimum, a Brom pup, 2 Tillys, my Paph hainenanse (I'll be keeping a close eye on this one, and will remove it if I see a change for the worse) and some keikis from my Den loddegessii.

I'm going to order two mini cool growing Masdies and hope for the best...if they don't work out, then I guess one or two of my friends in the cooler climates will be getting a gift

I just ordered from Andy's (but their next shipping date is 8/15 ).
I'm getting:
Masdevallia schroderiana IOSPE PHOTOS and
Masdevallia rolfeana IOSPE PHOTOS

Got my fingers crossed...

And you said it was going to be empty for a "week or so"! LOL!! It's impossible to wait, isn't it? The possibilities just keep calling out to you! (Or at least to me they do - I hear voices, but its okay, they're friendly!)

I hope your new Masdies love their new home - I'm sure they're going to feel really welcome! I'll be waiting for updates!!

You know what's even worse? When you start planning the second and third because you've run out of space. By the way Susanne, take a look at Dyakia hendersonianum. It's from Borneo and likes to grow very warm, shady and constantly wet. Fantastic inflourescence. Mine's in spike with several buds finally swelling (they take forever). IOSPE PHOTOS

Hi Ross,

Very warm won't work for me with this. I'm going for cooler temps in the terrarium.

Sue, I think you need something to hang down on the back... all that empty space is crying to be filled! Have something planned already for that?

I've also been playing with mine this evening. I can't actually set everything in place, as I don't have everything I need yet. But as the mini pleuros will be grown on pieces of wood, I've been getting those together. Some of the main pieces have 5 or 6 growing on them now - sure beats all of those tiny pots! (Camera is recharging now, so I'll get some photos in the morning...)

:iagree: with Shakkai. There are a lot of really great 'chids you can zero in on like our all-time fave Haraella odorata. There are many minis that will share a cooler environs now you have a tank. I'd fill er up

The Masd schroederiana is gonna be hung in the back, it looks like it puts on quite a display. I left a spot in the center of the floor for the Masd rolfeana.

Ross, I was tempted with the H odorata but it's so happy where it is, I can't bear to move it It took a long time to find it's "happy place"
