Floating ultrasonic foggers?
I've seen the ultrasonic foggers for use in tabletop waterfalls/reptile terrariums but they all need to sit in a predetermined depth of water, are there any that float, maybe in a tiny innertube so if the water level drops it still functions fine and won't burn out?
Does this product exist? Maybe the sell them to fog up a koi pond or something?

I have read there is such a product. It is the same fogger except there is an attachment that keeps it floating and at the same depth

Don't most of them sense low water level, and shut off?

The reason why floating ones are a good idea is beacuse the foggers make the most fog in shallow water, but that dries too fast and needs constant refilling. If I could get a cheap floater I would, since I could keep water as deep as possible.

Try fastening it a couple inches below a chunk of styrofoam. I got my small one on ebay, for about $20, but it doesn't come with a floater.....you'd have make that.

Thanks, I checked Ebay but all the redi-made ultrasonic pond floaters have wacky led lights on them, don't know if the plants would like pink floyd light show... also they're all about 10" in diameter but a homemade one would be cool.
Jasen can you show us your construct? How much foam did you have to use to keep it bouyant? Did you use an untrasonic mistmaker from a DIY tabletop fountain kit? I'll bet you could coat the foam with silicne and coco-fiber and let moss grow (just not over the hole) and hide that puppy in a vivarium... hmmmm...

I have one of the small ones, in my orchidarium: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...chidarium.html. It's in a small reservoir, so it doesn't have room to float, but I notice it works best when the water is about an inch and a half above the fogger. I do know, that whatever you use, can't block the stream from the fogger....or it impedes the fog. The first thing I would try is those small donut-shaped, styrofoam rings that are used in fake plants. Michael's, or any other craft store should carry them. Just buy a few different sizes (so you can play around with different bouyancies), you might be able to "fillet" it, so that only a little bit stays above water. Just suspend the fogger so that the fog shoots up through the donut hole. The fog should create a thick enough layer to make the styrofoam easy to hide. Mine has the lights, also, but they are really quite tranquil (they don't blink, or anything like that, they slowly fade from one color to the next). I didn't want the lights at first, but now that I got them, I really like them. if the styrofoam blocks direct view of the lights, then they will just give the fog, and water, a colorful hue. Here's the one I got, it does good in anything under 2-3 feet. Ultrasonic Mist Maker Fountain Fogger - (item 250139944313 end time Jul-26-07 14:16:42 PDT) I think they all run on 24 volts, so you will need a 110-24v converter......luckily, I already had one.

Thanks Jasen! I've seen those fountain mist makers at Michaels with the normal power cord attached so I will try and get one of those to start playing with when I go to get some Super Sculpey (polymer clay) this weekend. But I definately like the idea to attach it to styrofoam!

I got my fogger from :
Mainland Mart factory outlet and wholesale supplier
and you can buy a floater buoy with it:
I would also highly reccomend the umbrella (it's not really yellow)
to keep the rain down... they splash EVERYWHERE at the reccomended floating height. I ended up using a 3rd device:
in conjunction with the umbrella and NOT the buoy to keep the splashing down.
